Our History

LENASIA MUSLIM SCHOOL celebrates its 32nd anniversary this year. in 1987, a very wise man, Moulana Yahyah Bham together with a few prominent members in society came up with this brain child, a teaching and learning institute which would provide an Islamically sound environment, producing well balanced and integrated students who would be professionals in a diverse and multicultural society. It is with this idea of a strong Islamic ethos that LMS was established in 1988, offering a dual integrated Islamic and secular curriculum. It started with a roll of 189 learners and a staff compliment of 8 educators, offering grade 1 to 6. The school roll rapidly increased and the school relocated to a property in Lenasia, off the K43 donated by the Ismail family.

The vision and mission statement, coined 33 years ago, has stood the test of time. It is the credo by which the school operates and will hold credibility for many generations to come. 

The underlying principles on which the school operates are closely aligned to and uphold the South African Constitutional values. Our learners, from all different walks of life, are treated equally, have equal access to all resources and are given the freedom to choose their subjects in line with the practice of democracy. We do not tolerate racial discrimination and we embrace diversity, valueing the input of all stakeholders. Our daily Akhlaaq programme reinforces human dignity, social justice, respect, equality and democracy. We operate ethically, with integrity and mutual respect for all of humanity.

Our shared goal is to develop learners spiritually, intellectually, physically and emotionally in a safe and stimulating environment. In doing so, we hope to produce learners who would be able to play a meaningful role in the South African society and the world at large.

 

What makes LMS stand out head and shoulders above the rest is the fact that our vision and mission statement are not simply plaques on our walls. We translate each and every statement into measurable outcomes and actions.

Our Teachers

In pursuit of academic excellence we ensure that highly qualified and competent staff are employed and continuously developed to keep up with new teaching ideas and methodologies. Our staff of dedicated educators inspires and encourages our learners. They model positive Islamic values and conduct.

Our Classrooms

Our classrooms and specialist rooms are fully equipped and resourced with projectors, enabling our educators to present exciting and informative lessons, having access to the internet. Our library resource centre is used in a very dynamic way, keeping learners stimulated, actively involved in educational games, preparing learners for competitions, assisting with assignments and proving learners with study material. Our library is also open to the community and the school regularly screens informative and interesting documentaries followed by discussion with guest speakers for the adult community. The educational material used in both the Secular and Islamic Curriculum is of a high standard. We adhere to a low teacher learner ratio making interaction in class meaningful. Our learners are offered additional support through intervention classes from Grade 1 up until Grade 12, empowering even the weaker learner to achieve.  We constantly evaluate the standard of education offered.
